In a significant step towards fostering educational opportunities and community support, the Islamic Call University College (ICUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Education Department of Tejwal Travel and Tourism. The partnership aims to extend vital educational and related services to the Sudanese community and refugees residing in Uganda.

The signing ceremony, held at the ICUC campus at Old Kampala Hill, Kampala District, was attended by top officials from both institutions. The Vice-Chancellor of ICUC, Dr Abdallah Idris expressed gratitude for the collaboration, emphasising the university’s mission of organising and advancing education for underserved communities.

“Our partnership with Tejwal Travel and Tourism is rooted in shared values of compassion and empowerment,” the Vice-Chancellor stated. “This MoU will enable us to make a tangible difference in the lives of the Sudanese community and refugee populations in Uganda, offering them access to quality education and other essential services.”

Representing Tejwal Travel and Tourism, the Head of Education Department, Dr Tahir, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to bridging gaps in education and providing tailored services to marginalised groups. “Education is a tool for transformation. By working with ICUC, we aim to ensure that no member of the Sudanese or refugee community is left behind,” he remarked.

Key Features of the MoU:

  1. ICUC will provide scholarships and flexible learning opportunities to deserving students from the Sudanese community and refugees.
  2. Both institutions will collaborate on training programs designed to equip individuals with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
  3. Initiatives to promote cross-cultural understanding and inclusivity will be jointly implemented.
  4. The partnership includes services beyond education, such as career counselling and mentorship for refugees adapting to new environments.

The MoU also marks the beginning of a series of programs and outreach activities targeting communities in Kampala and other regions with significant Sudanese and refugee populations.

Both parties affirmed their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the agreed initiatives. The ceremony concluded with a sense of optimism and shared determination to create lasting positive change for the Sudanese and refugee communities in Uganda.
