...An Essential Collection of Academic Resources...

Profile

mandated to avail its stakeholders with information resources relevant to their respective areas of teaching, learning, and research

Islamic Call University College (ICUC) library is a knowledge-based information service department. The library is mandated to avail its lecturers and student users with books and other information resources relevant to their respective areas of teaching, learning, and research. The library services are not only teacher/learner focused but also mindful of the information needs of the non-academic individuals and the community.

The history of the library is traced to the Gaddafi National Mosque which was a gift from the people of Libya through their leader Col. Muammar Al Gaddafi (late). The construction started in 2005, and the entire structure was officially opened in 2008 by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with a host of other Heads of state across Africa.

The library was originally devoted to the theology books. Since it became under the operation of ICUC, it expanded its scope to include books on ICT, Humanities, Business, Education, Public Administration.

The library opens from Monday to Sunday and the working hours are; 8:00am – 5:00pm while on weekends it is from 9:00am – 3:00pm. There is always a one-hour break for prayers and lunch.

ICUC Library allows every registered student and staff plus external users to freely access the library. Although the Library book resources are still limited, every effort is being made to stock it well so that every course is well catered for. Nevertheless, inspite of the unsatisfactory hard copy collection, ICUC Library enjoys access to e-resources through its subscription to the consortium of Uganda University Librarians (CUUL) e-resources portal and its Local Management e-resource tool (koha). This is to facilitate its patrons with a vast collection of resources that support learning and research.

Koha Library management tool has facilities to free/open access to its Library content, while the CUUL e-resources portal has both open and closed access to all Libraries’ resources registered under this organization. However, for one to have access to search, view, retrieve and display content to these scholarly information resources, the user needs to be a student or staff of Islamic Call University College.

Other Library services availed by the ICUC Library system circulation services of book materials, borrowing privileges, information literacy training, inter-library loan services and computers for internet access to e-books and e-journals.
